Don't Tell! kata Robert McKee dlm buku Story (pg.334-335) merujuk kpd storytelling yg pandai iaitu bercerita dlm skrip/filem kurang dialog2 on-the-nose! tapi terlalu amat sangat Show! kadangkala merugikan! pd pndpt aku, itulah yg telah berlaku kpd filem ini! aku tujukan posting pendek ini khas utk sdri Tan Chui Mui iaitu: "Kau membazirkan cerita kau yg bagus dgn teknik realism in film yg terlampau ini!"
apa maksud aku? baca takrifan 'realism in film' dr internet ini:
"There is a famous painting by the surrealist painter René Megritte in which he draws a totally accurate pipe and writes underneath it "ceçi n’est pas une pipe" - this is not a pipe. It is, of course, a picture of a pipe and not the real thing; he is drawing our attention to the fact that an image is not reality but someone’s representation of reality. We can regard filmmakers as organising the reality they want us to see."

saya mengerti bahawa mungkin sdri ingin 'menawan hati' penganjur festival filem antarabangsa (yg terbukti sdri sudah dapat) tambahan pula dana RM100,000 filem ini juga datang dr luar (FINAS pon satu hal!) tetapi apa yg saya rasa 'sayang' (kesal) kerana sebenarnya filem sdri ini berpotensi utk mengaut keuntungan kutipan tiket wayang spt Sepet sekiranya dibikin lebih baik dr segi pre/post productionnya. even mungkin akan melebihi kutipan Rain Dogs. tetapi kerana sifat filem ini yg terlalu indie (read: bukan komersial style) menyebabkan anda kehilangan penonton yg berpotensi utk melihat karya tulisan sdri yg pd saya sangat bagus! kenapa? saya hairan kerana cerita sebaik itu yg sebenarnya komersial, kamu bikin dlm btk 'drama swasta tv'? where is your music scores? where is your story structure? walaupun sdri mengikuti closing-style mcm Sepet (read: options kpd penonton) tetapi pd saya sdri tetap rugi kerana khalayak yg sepatutnya berkongsi entertainment value filem ini dihalau oleh pilihan sdri sendiri utk menghasilkan filem yg way too draggy & long duration cuts yg sebenarnya boleh dijimatkan for characters/story development! hanya org2 yg sabar & cukup tidur sblm menonton shj yg mampu menghargai filem sdri ini! rugi! amat rugi! what a waste!

what a critic you are, ajami. i am no expert, unlike jimi who can criticise a film so godly. so i'd better be a spectator, i mean, a wise one, taking notes from ur wisely constructed critics ajami.
im sure gonna catch this draggy movie soon. sure no drags? hahaha..
my entirely person opinion:
i loved "love conquers all". to me, it's a smartly-scripted story. in this film, dangers creep up on you and catch you unawares -- like real life. in real life, rapes, penipuan, and victimisation happen without the aid of music. that's why real life is a thousand times more terrifying than movies. i think it took a lot of courage for mui to make this film like this. as a filmmaker, i admire her artistry in the making of "love conquers all".
i wish i made this film.

honestly, I LIKE THE FILM VERY MUCH! BUT the style? too much of something is merimaskan.. nasib baik i SUKA the storyline, if not dah lama i fast-forward!

BUT since i was one of the public audience, i also entitled to give my 1 cent worth of opinion lah kan? iaitu filem ini 'berpotensi' utk ditonton ramai oleh khalayak umum krn 'keunikan' storyline-nya TETAPI di sini GAGAL! but then again this my entirely person opinion :-)
Aku dah komen psl benda nih kat blog fadz. aku pon dah naik boring dengan gaya filem indie malaysia mcm ni. Please la seksa batin penonton dengan cara lebih kreatif. aku bole terima rabun & sepet sebab punya isi dan emosi. Aku bole layan static and draggy shot dlm filem Wong Kar Wai kerna hasil seninya yg addictive. Tapi filem yg seksa mcm Love Conquers All nih memang bukan dibikin utk penonton dipanggung tapi utk festival. Malas nak komen lebih2 nanti org cakap aku pandai2 pulak. Aku patut minum power root 2 tin masa tgk citer nih. Kalau intention director utk beri rasa uncomfortable tuh memang filem nih berjaya dari segi pembinaan emosinya. Itu saja.
